Time Domain Analysis
A NVGate® plug-in for OROS 3-Series analyzers
Introduction
Noise and vibration analyzers are the perfect tool for
machinery diagnostics and maintenance. Working like a
stethoscope, the dynamic signal analysis extracts the
frequencies corresponding to the mechanical behaviors with
the help of the FFT, 1/n Octave or Synchronous Order analysis
techniques. The spectral distribution of such noises and
vibrations are essential to identify the vibrations components
constituting the machinery (and its defaults) signature.
In addition to the vibrations, defaults signatures like shocks
and clicks contain spikes which make their spectra
unreadable. Using only spectral techniques appears to be
insufficient for a correct diagnostics and predictive
maintenance on industrial machineries. The Time Domain
Analysis and monitoring reveals important indicators about the
machinery health and early degradation of the rotating parts.
OROS, the specialist of measurement systems for diagnostics
on rotating machinery, features the Time Domain Analysis
plug-in for the 3-Series analyzers range.
The TDA is a plug-in for NVGate®, the noise & vibration
software platform for 3-Series analyzers.

Time Domain Analysis (TDA) DATASHEET
This TDA plug-in is designed to emphasize such details by its state-of-the-art signal processing and
display. The TDA plug-in is unequalled for monitoring the time domain during field measurement to
insure that the acquired signals are correct. This plug-in is also a major tool for fault detection with
signal indicators providing sharp information about the signal shape and type. The TDA plug-in is the
ideal complement of the FFT, FFTDiag and SOA (Synchronous Order Analysis) plug-ins for machinery
diagnostics and maintenance. Real-time and post-processing analysis of shocks and impacts have
never been so easy and clear with the Time Domain Analysis plug-in.
Description
The TDA is an optional plug-in for NVGate V6.00 and upper. It benefits
on the proven ergonomics and efficiency of NVGate’s software
components. This plug-in takes advantage of the real-time processing
capabilities of the 3-Series analyzers featuring immediately consistent
results. As an NVGate plug-in, it runs in parallel with all the others
plug-in offering a real flexibility to analyze the signals in all domains
simultaneously.
The TDA works on-line or from recorded signal files. It provides
simultaneously 2 type of results; the time view and the signal
indicators.
Time ViewTM
The Time View is an oscilloscope-like view of the time domain series
which scrolls the signal for a user-defined duration. The length of the
viewed signal is independent for each channel. That is to say it allows
monitoring the same signal on different time bases (e.g.: 1 h, 2 min
and 10 s).
The Time View embeds signal
indicators that can be extracted
from any user defined area. That
is useful for identifying the nature
of an RMS variation during a runup (e.g. differentiating resonances
or unbalanced shocks).
Signal indicators
Running totally in parallel with the Time View, the signal
indicators, DC, RMS, Skew, Kurtosis, peak, peak-to-peak
and crest factor are delivered on a sliding averaging or
repeated linear basis. These levels are available as view-meters or profiles. It is then easy to monitor
and record them for trend analysis or default detection. The view-meter can be gathered in common
windows. Alarms allows a fast visualization of critical levels reaching.
The profiles give an easy to read
overview of the signal indicators
evolution versus time or any available
reference like RPM, temperature or
torque. The Signal indicator can be a
reference itself, permitting investigation
graphs like the evolution of the kurtosis
(accident in the signal) versus the RMS level (the energy) of the vibrations themselves.
