The Electronic Metal Halide ballast shall have an input voltage range with a variation of at least +/- 20%
and +/- 1% lamp regulation resulting in greater lamp stability in areas with poor power regulation.
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast shall have lamp voltage regulation with a variation no greater than +/1%.
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast output will be “square wave” with an operating frequency of less than
200Hz.
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast shall incorporate a “Turn Off” shut down safety feature not exceeding
a response time of 3 seconds to prevent excessive ignition, undue system stress and improved long term
performance of the ballast under the following conditions: no lamp, failed lamp, end of life lamp, leaker
lamps and other sustained abnormal conditions such as rectification and glow mode.
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast shall comply with FCC Part 18 Class A. The manufacturer shall
provide documentation of compliance with non-consumer limits for EMI & RFI.
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast shall have a Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) less than 9%.
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast shall have a lamp Crest Factor of less than 1.3.
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast shall have a Power Factor of not less than 99%.
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast shall be sound rated “A”.
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast shall be equipped with internal thermal protection to shut down the
ballast when operating temperatures reach unacceptable levels.
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast shall be UL and CUL “Listed or Recognized” for 120v and 277v
applications and CE “Listed” for 220 to 240v 50Hz applications.
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast shall incorporate a metal case and be suitable for recessed use.
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast shall be designated Type 1 – Outdoor.
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast shall be capable of remote mounting with a distance of not less than 50
feet and capable of greater distances exceeding 300 feet.
The Electronic Metal Halide Ballast shall incorporate Electrolytic Capacitor(s) with minimum rating of the
8,000 hours at 105 degrees C and a minimum life expectancy exceeding 64,000 hours at 75 degrees C
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast manufacturer shall offer a Five (5) year product warranty.
Note: Ballast warranty is reduced to 3 years if the T-Point exceeds 75° C but not more than 80° C.
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast shall have zero volts measured “terminal-to-terminal” and no more
than 100 volts measured “terminal-to-ground” when there is no lamp in the socket.
The ballast manufacturer shall have a minimum of fifteen (15) years experience in the manufacture of
electronic power lighting products, two (2) years experience in the manufacture of Electronic Metal Halide
ballasts and no less than fifty thousand (50,000) units installed worldwide.
The specified lamps shall be approved and/or warranted by the lamp manufacturer for use with the
designated Electronic Metal Halide ballast.
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast shall be Hatch “RST” series or approved equal.
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast shall have the following maximum power consumption to ensure cool
operation and maximum energy savings:
Ballast Wattage:
Power Consumption:
39 watts
43 watts
70 watts
77 watts
100 watts
110 watts
150 watts
164 watts
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast shall have built in short circuit protection.
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast shall have a designed ballast factor of 1.0.
The Electronic Metal Halide ballast shall incorporate Resonant Start Technology “RST” for maximum
lamp life at rated lumen output, elimination of ignition induced “arc-to ground” system failures and other
features and benefits as detailed above.
