Press release Datum 15/10/2015 50Hertz Transmission GmbH EC Seventh 50Hertz EEG conference discusses evolution of renewable energy sources towards dominant factor in power system Eichenstraße 3A 12435 Berlin Transmission system operator 50Hertz organises seventh edition of annual EEG conference / EEG surcharge 2016, legal aspects of selfsufficiency, CHP amendment, offshore and balance management focus of discussion / Almost 200 participants for conference in substation in Berlin-Kreuzberg Berlin, 15/10/2015 – Today, about 200 participants gathered in Berlin to attend the EEG conference held by transmission system operator 50Hertz to discuss the impact of the reformed Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) that entered into force during the summer of 2014 as well as recent trends and challenges against the backdrop of the political debate on the energy transition, particularly in view of the EEG surcharge for 2016, which was presented today by the four German transmission system operators. The annual EEG conference at the transformer substation in BerlinKreuzberg, the seventh to date, was attended by representatives of the transmission and distribution system operators as well as by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, power traders, IT experts, lawyers and accountants. During his opening speech, CEO of 50Hertz Boris Schucht emphasised that renewable energy sources have become the dominant factor in our power system. New products and processes are therefore needed both in system operations and market development in order to ensure the most secure and cost-efficient integration of renewables in the grid as possible. According to the 50Hertz CEO, this also includes the planned power market act in addition to the legislative initiatives for RES tenders or the digitalisation of the energy transition. "An important part of the Power Market Act is the central position of renewables in the power system. The further development of the energy-only market will lead to more flexibility for the integration into the system of large quantities of energy generated from fluctuating sources. It provides the right incentives for producers and consumers to determine their course of action based on the state of the electric power system. We can contribute to this by improving the balancing groups", said Schucht. www.50hertz.com Lectures were held at the conference on specific themes related to the implementation of the EEG reform, such as the 2016 EEG surcharge, legal aspects of the EEG surcharge for autogeneration, the CHP Act amendment as well as the grid connections of the Baltic 1 and Baltic 2 offshore wind farms. To create a better platform for dialogue, the second half of the conference offered professional forums instead of the earlier plenary addresses. Specific themes could be discussed in further detail within the four available forums: "management of balancing groups and BRP contracts", "settlement of the EEG surcharge for autogeneration", "§ 74 of the EEG - national procedure for RES data supplied by ESPs" and "implementation of the System Stability Ordinance".
