COURSE INFORMATION & Schedule

Textbook: Physics 9e, vol. 2 (Cutnell & Johnson). We will cover chapters 18-27, 29-32.
Prerequisites: Physics 180a.
Course objective: Introduce the student to the fundamentals of Electromagnetism, Circuits,
Optics, and Modern Physics.
Homework: Homework (conceptual questions, problems) at the end of each chapter in the
textbook or will be posted on Black Board. Homework solutions will be posted on Black Board.
Two reserved text books at the SDSU Library.
Exams: Exam 1: Ch 18-20. Exam 2: Ch 21-23. Exam 3: Ch 24-27. Exam 4: Ch 29-32.
Exams are multiple choice (numerical and conceptual questions). A relevant Formulas Sheet
will be post on Black Board prior to the each test and will also be attached to the test.
Exams are 100 points each. There are no make-up exams. Cheating results in a ‘F’.
Bring your SDSU red-ID, ParSCORE Test Form F-289-PAR-L, calculator, #2 pencils.
Test 4 is your Final: Friday, Dec. 13 (8-10 AM) in the lecture classroom (HT-140).
Test scores will be posted on Black Board. Test solutions will be in the glass display cases
outside rooms P-245 (2nd floor) in the Physics building.
Grading: I will drop your lowest exam test score from exams 1-3. Test 4 cann’t be dropped.
The maximum point total = 300.
The tentative grade scale:
A =88%, A- =84%. B+ =78%, B=68%, B- =64%. C+ = 60%, C =50%, C- =46%.
D+ =42%, D =38%, D-=34%, F < 34%.
