NOTICE OF VACANCY OPENING DATE: December 23, 2015 POSITION: Graduate Assistant — Intensive English Learning Institute APPLICATION DEADLINE: Review of applications will begin immediately and priority consideration will be given to applications that are complete and received by January 4, 2016. DATES OF APPOINTMENT: January 11, 2016 SALARY: Up to $9000 for spring and summer semesters plus up to 9 credits of tuition waiver for spring semester. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for tuition waiver. RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the guidance of the ESL program coordinator, maintain relations with the University Honors program and recruit Honors students as language partners for IELI students. Mentor and train language partners. Facilitate day-to-day operations in the IELI tutoring center. Assist the coordinator with daily operations including, but not limited to, organizing and analyzing data, advising students, scheduling and administering standardized assessments, and facilitating social and learning activities. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Fully admitted to a graduate program at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing. Demonstrated commitment to creating and maintaining an environment that promotes cross-cultural understanding and appreciation for all members of the university community. Willingness to work some evening hours as needed. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail, professionalism, and dependability Experience with teaching English course(s). Intercultural experience(s). Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment. RELATED INFORMATION: Graduate assistants are required to be enrolled in a minimum of six credits during each spring/fall semester and in a minimum of one graduate credit hour during summer. The Intensive English Language Institute supports the English language development and cultural adjustment needs of conditionally admitted undergraduate students who are academically admissible to the University except for English proficiency.
