DRAFT I: TECHNOLOGY LITERACY RUBRIC
Directions:
This rubric serves as a tool for assessing students’ technology literacy skills, as defined in FSU’s Undergraduate Education Initiative
(UEI). This form can be used for assessing individual students’ work. It can also tally and display learning outcomes data for an
individual course or for numerous course offerings over a given time period.

Use appropriate terminology: Students demonstrate an understanding of
basic computing terms and acronyms.
Use basic operating system features: Students demonstrate an
understanding and use of the features and utilities of an operating system.
Use e-mail: Students can use e-mail effectively and appropriately to receive
and send messages and documents.
Use the Internet to find information and resources: Students can use
browsers, search engines, and scholarly databases to locate information.
Use word processing to create a text document: Students create a
variety of document formats that include use of tables, charts, images, and/or
other items.
Use information appropriately: Students demonstrate an understanding of
social, ethical, legal, and political consequences of information technology.
Use instructional materials: Students can use online help files and
understand tutorials and instructional materials.
Use a spreadsheet to model simple processes or financial tables:
Students can modify cells in a spreadsheet, use formulas appropriately, and
create graphs from a spreadsheet program to represent data.
Use a database system to set up and access useful information:
Students can construct, manipulate, and format a flat data file.
Use Presentation Software: Students can use presentation software and
can incorporate multimedia into presentations.
