Course Objectives:
The objective of this university seminar course is to enable students to:
 Describe the cultural expectations and academic responsibilities of students in a highly diverse
and intellectually challenging university community.
 Identify and develop strategies to overcome the typical barriers to academic success faced by
most first year students.
Course Requirements:
You will be required to complete the following requirements:


Grading Policy/Attendance:
This course is a CR/NC (credit/no credit) class, which means that your attendance is mandatory and
part of your grade. If you have a legitimate reason for missing class (illness, team travel, etc.) you are
responsible for contacting me before class. If your absence is not approved by me beforehand, you will
be charged with an unexcused absence.
If you are absent more than 2 class periods, you will receive NC (no credit).
Reading and Assignments:
Must be completed and turned in at the beginning of each class period in which they are due. Class
discussion and participation is expected.
