The Summer Camp staff are responsible to provide daily programs that promote selfesteem and encourage positive social development of our members. This includes planning and executing programs for individuals, small groups and large groups.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
1.
Oversee the daily operation of the program area which you are assigned to
2.
Provide a wide range of program options for individuals, small groups and large groups that are age appropriate and engaging
3.
Maintain a safety conscious attitude in performing duties and provide a safe environment for program participants
4.
Facilitate group clubs as assigned
5.
Assist with and/or coordinate the SFSP food program if necessary
6.
Maintain positive collaborations with other area agencies
7.
Plan and implement a wide variety of field trips
8.
Assist other program areas as needed and maintain a positive team attitude
9.
Must be able to drive company owned vehicles and chaperon trips as needed
10.
Attend regular staff meetings and oversee special projects as assigned
SPECIALTY AREAS:
Recycling Specialist/Program Assistant(1 position)
Responsibilities include overseeing waste reduction program in dining hall and throughout camp grounds. This staff member will need to outline the waste management protocol to staff and Voyageur guests on a routinely basis. Duties also include consistent checking in on staff, cabins, and the campers to ensure safety and wellbeing. This staff member will be asked to assist in mediating challenges involving both staff and campers.
This staff will act as an extension of the program director and other full time Voyageur
staff. This staff will also assist in ongoing camp needs as they arise and support other programmatic areas
Health Specialist: (1 position)
Responsibilities include administering daily medication to campers and staff, along with giving basic first aid to minor injuries. Keeping a medical record of all care given to staff and campers along with contacting guardians of a child if they become ill or injured and require over the counter medication or medical attention. Duties also include teaching staff basic first aid, how to perform a thorough head check for lice, how to perform health checks on campers and overseeing the documentation of each campers health. Participate and support other Camp Staff in camp activities and events to ensure they are safe for campers.
Waterfront Director: (2 positions)
Responsible for the safeguarding and welfare of all persons present at the waterfront, including administrating first aid and emergency response life-saving CPR. Supervise lifeguards, summer camp staff, campers, rental groups and visitors while at waterfront.
Responsible for the maintenance of the waterfront area including boathouse, boats, swimming area, docks, beach, floating dock and swim channel. Promote and enforce waterfront safety rules and regulations. Teach canoe, kayak and swim lessons. Coordinate all waterfront activities. Conduct regular lifeguard, CPR and first aid recap training.
ODLS (Outdoor Living Skills): (1 position)
Responsibilities include planning, directing and implementing day to day programs in outdoor living skills. This includes but is not limited to fire building, camping skills, shelter building, fishing and outdoor cooking. While overseeing groups of 12-40 youth at a time it will be expected that this staff promotes an environment where personal goals are aimed for and reached. Staff will need to plan and lead overnight camping trips with appropriate gear and maintain said gear. This staff will also assist in ongoing camp needs as they arise and support other programmatic areas.
Nature Specialist: (1position)
Responsibilities include planning, directing and implementing day to day programs focused on nature. This includes but is not limited to nature hikes, birds, aquatic studies, reptiles, amphibians, insects and wild edibles. While overseeing groups of 12-40 youth at a time it will be expected that this staff promotes an environment where personal goals are aimed for and reached. Staff will be responsible for the maintenance of the nature classroom, equipment and educational animals. They will need to assist in the overseeing of the recycling and organics composting programs. This staff will also assist in ongoing camp needs as they arise and support other programmatic areas.
Cabin Counselor: (6 male and 6 female positions)
As a co-counselor, staff will need to oversee and keep safe up to 12 youth in a cabin.
During day and night staff will be expected to create a fun, engaging environment during camp activities. It will be expected that staff help campers meet personal and camp related goals. Staff will participate and encourage all youth to join in activities by setting this standard. Assist in camp needs as they arise and support all other areas of camp programing.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
High School diploma or GED required, some college preferred. Must have some experience working with youth. Should also have some experience working in a camp
setting and planning and executing programs. Must possess maturity in judgment; be very organized, able to take initiative, enthusiastic and a team player.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Branch atmosphere will require walking from area to area, running occasionally, sitting for periods of time, bending, twisting and raising your arms above your head. Should also be able to lift at least 25 lbs., kneel and drive a vehicle for extended periods. Also must be able to stand for long periods of time on occasion.
