Urooj Mian Urooj Mian holds a Masters in Peace and Conflict Research (M.Sc) from Uppsala University, Sweden and a Bachelors of Public Affairs and Policy Management (BPAPM) with a specialization in human rights and a minor in law from the Arthur Kroeger College at Carleton University. She brings over 10 years of not-for-profit management and leadership experience to the team. Her personal passion resides in the area of ‘human security’ with empowerment as a key component to driving any sustainable change. Her work has placed a particular emphasis on migration, gender based violence (GBV), conflict, internal and refugee displacement dynamics (causes, impact, solutions, inclusive peace processes), and associated human rights abuses. She has worked with GBV, capacity building and justice related initiatives both locally and internationally in South Asia and Africa and currently in the Americas. As a strategic advisor for the Government of Canada, she has over 6 years of experience in funding including the coordination and development of program policies, tools, training and operational processes for national field staff. In her latest position she leads bilateral and multilateral domestic and international relations, negotiations and implementation of agreements in relation to the operation of Canada’s In Canada Asylum system and border security related initiatives and protocols.
