2016 Application
The Queen’s Community Music Award for Youth Fund was established in November
2009 through the generous support of a private donor. Now in its seventh year, the fund
will offer up to fifteen scholarships in varying amounts to students for private music
instruction in orchestral string instruments and piano during the 2016-17 academic year.
Please consult the following guidelines for eligibility and application requirements.
Eligibility:
 Awards are available to students of orchestral string instruments (violin, viola,
cello, bass) or piano.
 Students must be under age 25 at the time of application.
 Applicants must be enrolled in private lessons at Queen’s Community Music
during the 2015-16 year.
 Applicants’ accounts at QCM must be in good standing at the time of application.
 Recipients of the award must register for a private lesson package of at least 23
lessons at Queen’s Community Music during the 2016-17 year.
 Winners of the 2015 awards must fulfill the registration and performance
requirement in 2015-16 in order to be considered for the award in 2016-17.
Application:
 Complete applications should be submitted to Karma Tomm, Director, by 4 pm
on Friday June 17, 2016 at Harrison LeCaine Hall. Incomplete applications will
not be considered.
 Student must submit the following pages included with this document:
o Completed Application form
o Completed Teacher recommendation form
Determination:
Recipients will be selected by a committee overseen by the Director of Queen’s
Community Music.
Distribution:
 5 awards @ $500 each to cello students
 2 awards @ $250 each to cello students age 10 and under
 5 awards @ $500 each to violin/viola/piano students
 3 awards @ $250 each to violin/viola/piano students age 10 and under
 All applicants will be notified by July 15, 2016 in advance of the Fall registration
period. Awards will be applied as tuition credit for private lessons during the
2016-17 year, pending receipt of student’s registration documents.
 Award recipients agree to perform in at least one QCM student recital during the
2016-17 year.
