We have made it through another academic year. Congratulations to our 92 graduates who will be honored at the 2009 HRTM Spring Convocation on Friday evening. All faculty and graduates should plan on arriving by 5:30 to sign in and organize for the procession. The Convocation will begin at 6 pm sharp. For those of you not graduating, have a wonderful summer – we look forward to seeing you in August – classes begin on August 24. Remember, it is very important that HRTM students register as early as possible for fall 2009 classes to guarantee enrollment. Those of you who normally wait to register the first week of school, will be in jeopardy of not getting into all your classes this fall. One final reminder. If you are planning on interning either in the summer 2009 or fall 2009 semester and did not attend the internship meeting in April, please contact Alice Southwell (hospitality students) or myself (recreation students) ASAP. The HRTM convocation will take place on Friday May 22nd from 5:30pm-7:30pm on the outside lawn between King Library & Science Bldg. This convocation is for all HRTM students who completed their coursework in the fall (2008), spring (2009) or summer (2009). Additionally, the SJSU Commencement will be Saturday, May 23rd at 9am at the Spartan Stadium for all to attend. Additional HRTM Course Added for Summer 2009 Schedule NuFS 20 (Sanitation & Environmental Issues) has been added to the HRTM Summer 2009 Schedule. This class will meet on Mondays & Wednesdays from 9-11:00am in Clark Hall 202 and will be taught by Alan Finkelstein. Among its specific duties and activities are: Development, periodic review and update (each spring) of a graduate and undergraduate student handbook. Organizing a spring convocation event for graduating students. Providing input to the Department on matters related to student recruitment, retention, and advising. Periodically review the Department web site and propose updates for review by the department chair as needed. Periodically (at least once a semester) facilitate communication by preparing a departmental newsletter.
