Department of Chemistry Seminar Announcement Date/Time/Venue Title/Speaker 22 Mar (Tue) 10am – 11am Recent Progress in Dr Chi Chunyan’s Research Group @ S8 Level 3 Executive Classroom Dr Chi Chunyan Department of Chemistry National University of Singapore Host : Assoc Prof Xu Qing-hua About the Speaker Dr Chi received her Bachelor degree in chemical engineering from Qiqihar University in 1998 and Masters degree in polymer chemistry from Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2001. She did her PhD degree (summa cum laude) in chemistry at Max-Planck Institute for Polymer Research (with Prof. Gerhard Wegner) in 2001-2004 and continued as a Research Assistant under Prof Wegner’s supervision from 2004-2005. Dr Chi pursued her postdoctoral research as a Postdoctorate Research Scholar at the University of California at Santa Barbara (with Prof. Guillermo C. Bazan) from 2005-2007. She joined the Department of Chemistry, National University of Singapore in 2007 and is currently a Research Fellow. Dr. Chi is interested in synthetic chemistry of conjugated polymers, oligomers, dendrimers and liquid crystals and their material properties and applications for printed electronics, sensors and display techniques. She has published more than 30 peer-reviewed papers in international journals. Abstract I will briefly introduce the research work in my group at NUS. The talk includes four parts: (1) novel n-type acene-based semiconductors (e.g. 1-3); (2) high order acenes (e.g. 4); (3) triazatruxene-based liquid crystals and two-photon absorption chromophores (e.g. TAT-Tn) and (4) H-shaped low band gap ambipolar semiconductors (e.g. HT-Tn). I will discuss their synthesis, material properties and device applications.
