READING ASSIGNMENT Chapter # 1
1) Chapter 1 McMurry and Castellion – Read the entire chapter. Know physical and chemical
properties and changes. Know states of matter. Try the problems that are presented throughout the
chapter. The answers are in the back of the text and in the study guide. Make flash cards for the
elements shown in table 1.2. Read the Application articles in the chapter.
2) Additional problems on pages 16-17: try all of the problems. You may omit prob 1.61.
In addition to the reading from the text and the problems assigned, you are responsible for all of the
information presented in the lecture. Also, read the study guide and try the problems contained
within.
3) Study Guide for Chap #1: Do all of the Multiple Choice, Sentence Completion and True/False
questions.
READING ASSIGNMENT FOR CHAPTER 2
1) Chapter 2 - read entire chapter. Table 2.2 – know the prefixes that are highlighted in red as
well as the prefix nano and the definition of an Angstrom. Application on page 28 (read over). Try
