The President’s Commission on the Status of Women Wednesday, January 19th 2011 1:00-2:00 pm CSU 285 Meeting Minutes Attendance: Sara Granberg-Rademacker, Deb Schulz, Jen Guyer-Wood, Kristin Underwood, Maria Bevacqua, Jeni Haddad, Amber Schramm, Sarah Revering, Kerry Diekmann, Sophie Slater, Wanda Viento, Jennifer Turner, Greg Wilkins, Wendy Meyer, Kim Greer, Rosemary Krawczyk, Heather Camp, Linda Hanson Regrets: Jeane McGraw, Suzie Dugan Absent: Amy Wagener, Gail Abraham, Carol Jensen, Denise Thompson 1. Committee Updates a. HERS and other opportunities i. Campus email was sent today announcing that applications are open. ii. The website is being updated to include information on the application process. iii. The Professional Development Day on January 5th was a success and very effective. iv. Meeting arranged for Monday, February 7th to review applications. b. Project of the Year Awards i. Discussed ideas to better advertise the Awards: i. Campus email and newsletter ii. Email organizer of the Undergraduate Conference iii. Graduate Studies Newsletter iv. Possibility of posters designed by PRSSA - Jen offered to print them. v. Advertise on monitors in the CSU ii. A reflective note section has been added to this year’s applications c. Research and Professional Development Grants i. Last semester a total of $1300 was awarded to 4 applicants ii. The proposal deadline for Spring is March 4th 2011 d. Mentor Match i. Meeting scheduled for next Monday, January 24th ii. Kristin Underwood gave a presentation at the Professional Development Day e. Listening Panel i. The next panel is scheduled for March 24th in a room in Morris Hall. Will try and get a room in CSU. f. Women of Courage and Vision Recognition Reception i. Meeting to be set up soon ii. Will be held in the Hearth area of the CSU this year so less food needs to be ordered due to the smaller space. iii. Votives have arrived iv. Decorations are being looked into. 2. Other a. Charge from the President i. The PCSW requires a member to serve on the Great Place to Work Task Force – Wendy Meyer volunteered i. The task force is committed to making MSU a great place to work and achieves this with initiatives that send out pro-active and positive messages from employers to employees. ii. The task force is currently seeking to incorporate the MSU core values into the language used by the university: such as the email sent out by the President about Martin Luther King Jnr Day. ii. First Year Student Language Change i. A letter was sent from the PCSW to the President with examples of where the old language was still in use ii. A follow up could be done to see if the language has been changed. Spot check on FYE, CDC and Res. Life proposed. iii. Possibility of asking President how he addressed the issue after we submitted the letter detailing the language examples. Linda Hanson offered to pursue this. b. New Committees i. Fundraising Options and Future Funding Needs - Deb Schultz and Sarah Revering volunteered to sit on the sub-committee ii. STEM – Jen Guyer-Wood, Heather Camp and Amber Schramm will sit on the sub-committee. Plan on two meetings per semester iii. Student Parents – Sara Granberg-Rademacker and Kim Greer will sit on the sub-committee. Will look into the needs of student parents on campus c. Data Privacy and Campus Civility i. Lots of instances last fall on campus of students fighting and not getting along ii. Could speak to Great Place to Work Task Force, Residential Life and FYE regarding having new student orientation about civility on campus iii. Possibility of arranging a meeting with Mary Dowd and Suzy Dugan to discuss ways to promote campus civility. d. Proposed Reorganization Email i. Mixed feedback was received ii. Wanda Viento reported that the WC is moving, effective next month iii. Feedback will be submitted to Anne Blackhurst, as requested e. PCSW Co-sponsored event-January 28, 2011 i. Celebrating Women and Girls in Sports with Women's Basketball 5pm: Reception, Taylor Center, Johnson Alumni Room 6:pm: Women's Basketball vs. Winona Minutes submitted by Sophie Slater
