Alcohol and Drugs
Alcohol and Other Drug Laws:
21 is the legal age for consumption of alcohol in the state of Minnesota. Violators are
subject to a $177 citation from the City of Mankato, and repeat violators may be subject
to on-campus disciplinary proceedings, as well.
Discussion Item:
Have a conversation about expectations you have about Alcohol and Drug use in your apartment.
Other civil and/or criminal penalties, as well as on-campus discipline may result from use and/or
possession of illegal drugs.
Parties
Social Host Law:
Properties at which underage drinking occurs, or at which excessive noise becomes an
issue may be subject to being issued a “strike.” Three strikes put a property
manager/owner at risk of losing his/her rental license. Property managers/owners may
evict and/or fine tenants responsible for incidents that lead to issuing of strikes or the
threat thereof.
Additionally, tenants may be issued “social host” citations, which carry criminal
penalties.
