Description (or Proposed Degree Requirements)
This course introduces the principles, theories, and skills of conflict management required for
advanced practice nurses. In addition, the course engages the student in exploration of the
ethical and legal frameworks, theories and applications that relate to leadership, management,
and decision-making in health care organizations. Case analysis and presentation will
emphasize the student’s ability to identify problems and offer collaborative resolutions in areas
related to patient care, patient safety, and appropriate workplace environments that support
quality care.
III.
Justification
These changes provide a better match of current knowledge, educational standards, and practice
for advanced nursing as well as current trends in general professional practice in health care. The
course description and the title change also reflect the addition of the conflict management
concepts and skills required of in advanced practice nursing. Nursing 7791 Seminar in Principles
of Conflict Management for Advanced Practice Nursing is integrated into this revised course so
the course is now a 3 credit course. Nursing 7791 will be eliminated to remove a 1 credit course
and allow a more appropriate course load for the student. In addition, the integration of the two
courses allows the student to better implement the course objectives and for faculty to evaluate
student learning outcomes. Faculty and student input from previous semesters have suggested
these changes.
