In addition, the course engages the student in exploration of the ethical and legal frameworks, theories and applications that relate to leadership, management, and decision-making in health care organizations. Case analysis and presentation will emphasize the student’s ability to identify problems and offer collaborative resolutions in areas related to patient care, patient safety, and appropriate workplace environments that support quality care. III. Justification These changes provide a better match of current knowledge, educational standards, and practice for advanced nursing as well as current trends in general professional practice in health care. The course description and the title change also reflect the addition of the conflict management concepts and skills required of in advanced practice nursing. Nursing 7791 Seminar in Principles of Conflict Management for Advanced Practice Nursing is integrated into this revised course so the course is now a 3 credit course. Nursing 7791 will be eliminated to remove a 1 credit course and allow a more appropriate course load for the student. In addition, the integration of the two courses allows the student to better implement the course objectives and for faculty to evaluate student learning outcomes. Faculty and student input from previous semesters have suggested these changes. IV. Examine the theoretical approaches to moral decision-making and conflict resolution. 2. Methods of Evaluation/Grading Criteria: The requirements of this course will be met through online participation and assignments, the writing of a scholarly paper, and the presentation of a specific role issue. Scholarly Paper – Students will author a paper that analyzes a conflict in the student’s health care workplace and includes ethical and legal issues and implications. The paper should be 10-15 pages in length and must conform to current APA guidelines. At least 10 current (no more than 3 years old) peerreviewed journal references are required in the literature review section. Please refer to the APA & Student Handbook discussion on plagiarism. The paper will be graded on organization, use of correct APA format, grammar, style and clarity, relevance to conflict management and ethics in advanced practice nursing, accuracy of content and comprehensiveness. 2. The four online assignments will involve specific activities related to information and readings from the course modules. Assignments will involve case study analysis of ethical, legal, and/or conflict issues as well as self-assessment activities of comprehensive and application of module concepts. Refer to course modules for specific assignments and further guidelines. Some general guidelines include each assignment requires at least 4 paragraph posting and at least 2 replies consisting of 2-3 paragraphs for 8 each reply to other students’ postings. It is important to include references/citations in postings and use correct grammar and spelling Late Penalty: 10% will be deducted daily for any assignment not turned in by the assigned time and due date.
