III. Justification This course one of two capstone experiences in the M.S. in Comparative Sport Management program. The primary purpose of this course is to provide the student with an opportunity to conceptualize, design, conduct, and disseminate an original research project related to sport management. The completion of a thesis is paramount for students who plan to pursue a Ph.D. in the future. IV. Additional Information (for New Courses only) Instructor: TBA Text: American Psychological Association (2009). Publication manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.). Washington, D.C.: Author. Prerequisites: EHS 6630 and permission of program coordinator Objectives: The student should be able to demonstrate knowledge of the research process in exercise and health science by being able to: a. develop a research hypothesis for a topic related to sport management. b. design an independent research study aimed at testing the proposed hypothesis. c. conduct a research study. d. compile and statistically analyze the data from a research project. e. disseminate the findings from a research project in both verbal and written form. Instructional Method This course is an independent research project conducted under the supervisor of a graduate faculty advisor and the oversight of a Thesis Committee. Method of Evaluation The evaluation will consist of on-going feedback from the graduate faculty advisor and approval of the Thesis Committee during the defense of the project. V. Resources and Funding Required (New Courses only) Resource Amount Faculty Other Personnel Equipment Supplies Travel New Books New Journals Other (Specify) $3,250 $928 $0 $278 $222 $0 $0 $0 TOTAL $4,678 Funding Required Beyond Normal Departmental Growth $0 The primary revenue sources will be from the reallocation of existing funds through the shifting of teaching workloads and the addition of two existing unfilled faculty lines. The estimates above are based on the average graduate faculty course load of six courses per year and the average annual salary of $65,000. These are averages are for simplicity and actual salaries and course workloads will vary by personnel. In addition, this is one of two capstone options for students; therefore, the resources will be dependent on the number of student who elect this course (i.e., workload and cost is computed on a per student basis). The calculations assume that the sport management faculty teach all but one of the courses offered (EHS 6630, which is already offered as part of the M.S. in AEHS). There will be a small revenue generation during the summer from enrollment in this program. VI. COURSE MASTER FORM This form will be completed by the requesting department and will be sent to the Office of the Registrar once the course has been approved by the Office of the President. The form is required for all new courses.
