Staff Senate Meeting

Staff Senate Agenda:
1. Cecil Wilson, President of Staff Senate, started off the meeting giving
details of the Street Fest. He will send out a survey and will need
feedback on those that could help with the festivities.
2. Mr. Wilson encouraged the Staff Senate members to apply for
standing committees that have vacancies.
3. Mr. Wilson explained the SGA (Student Government Association)
recommended the creation of a box that would start at 8th Street,
College Street, Marion, and Drane. These four streets will create a box
around campus that will be smoke-free. The drawbacks of this
decision: Lack of enforcement by campus police, staff/APSU
community would have to “police” smokers on campus, and retention
of those students who smoke.
4. Majority vote against the SGA smoke-free zone proposal.
5. The University Policy Committee will vote on the smoking policy
changes Tuesday, May, 10, and APSU President Hall will then decide
whether to implement the policy.
