Advanced Facilitation: Developing New Skills & Tools
About the Workshop
This is a two-day workshop for those who have had introductory or basic facilitation training, preferably
Donna Ching’s “Learning to Lead Collaboratively” (LLC) or “Facilitative Skills for Collaborative Leaders”
(FSCL) workshop. Participants will add to their repertoire of tools and explore new concepts to benefit
their work. They will also exchange experiences and ideas with other practicing facilitators through
hands-on exercises and opportunities to discuss lessons learned.
About the Presenters
Donna Ching, Ph.D., has been an extension specialist in the College of Tropical Agriculture and
Human Resources at the University of Hawaii-Manoa since 1987. From 1987-2011, she has coordinated
the Agricultural Leadership Program.
Lily Bloom Domingo established her own private consulting practice, CommUnity Works, LLC in 2009
after nearly 25 years working in the nonprofit sector, most recently as the COO and director of Training &
Consulting Services at the Hawaii Alliance of Nonprofit Organizations (HANO).
Donna and Lily both enjoy working with a variety of nonprofit, for-profit, educational, governmental, and
community organizations to provide training, consulting and technical assistance in the areas of group
process, leadership, facilitation, strategic planning, and collaborative decision-making.
Participants at this workshop will:




Explore the facilitator’s responsibilities
Discuss real-life facilitation challenges
Share and learn advanced facilitation tools
Reflect on personal style and philosophy of facilitation
To register, you must have had some introductory or basic facilitation training. If you have not attended
the “FSCL” or “LLC”, please contact Donna Ching, (808) 956-2255, donnac@hawaii.edu, to be admitted
to the workshop.
Event Details
When: September 10-11, 2014. Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Thursday, 8:00 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday and the workshop starts
PROMPTLY at 8:30 a.m. Participants must commit to two full days.
Where: University of Hawaii-Manoa-Campus Center, Executive Dining Room
Cost:
$200 for University faculty and staff, $300 for all others. Checks should be written to
RCUH (write “Project #1282” somewhere on check or purchase order) and mailed to
Donna R. Ching, 2515 Campus Rd., Miller 110, University of Hawaii, Honolulu, HI
96822. Bring your own lunch or purchase it at the UH Campus Center.

logistical information to notify you that you have secured a seat in the workshop. Your

Expectations. Please list your expectations for the workshop and/or issues that you would like
addressed.
2. Examples. Write a brief description of a significant facilitation challenge you have experienced,
preferably something you felt was not resolved fully to your satisfaction. This information will
help Donna and Lily to tailor portions of the workshop to critical concerns. It will not be shared
with others without your permission.

Refunds: Your payment will be refunded if cancellation is made by Monday, September 1st. After that
date, registration may be transferred to another person but it will not be refunded because a
seat in the workshop has been reserved for you and another person may have been turned
away.
