Equality Impact Assessment
Student Discipline
Progress Report
Further to the Equality Impact Assessment which took place in July 2010 there has been
some progress in implementing the recommended changes to policy in an attempt to reduce
or remove the potential for differential/ adverse impact. Details of progress on each of the
recommendations is given below:
1) To provide greater efficiency, the Panel recommends that the disciplinary records be
kept on the student record database rather than having to be produced manually.
ISS have developed a prototype database for us to develop over the coming
academic year. A full project proposal has been submitted to ISS and the
development of the prototype database has been added to their list of projects.
2) The Panel recommends that Student Disciplinary and Membership Office considers
information given on appeals data as part of the annual review process.
Statistics on the number of appeals submitted in 2010/11 and their subsequent
outcomes was submitted to the Panel and their annual meeting in October 2011
for review. No areas for concern were identified.
3) The Panel recommends that the disciplinary statistics be published on the web.
This will be implemented 2011/12 as part of a bigger project to update the
Student Discipline web pages.
4) The Panel recommends that further investigation is carried out by the Equality and
Diversity Committee into the suggestion that widening participation issues may be a
factor underlying a number of disciplinary cases.
For comment by the Secretary to the Equality and Diversity Committee.
