Ideas for Presenting the Common Core State Standards to your Staff Guiding Questions: o Jigsaw activity: There are six question areas. Number staff members off 1-6 You may want to have a member of each grade level become the 1-6 so teachers hear thinking from all grade levels on each question o Have them meet with their question group and become “experts” on that question Groups should be using the CCSS Binder and Translation Guide o Meet back with your home group/grade level and each question expert “teaches/explains” what was discussed/learned about their question. Complete the “Scavenger Hunt” activity Go to the Appendix C section of the Common Core State Standard Binder o Highlight in one color the Text Exemplars you have in your classroom library. o Highlight in a different color the Text Exemplars you have in your school library. o Provide at least one idea for each highlighted book and list the standards covered in the activity. o Pair/Group Participant: Each participant shares ideas for their highlighted books. o A master idea list can be created for each book documented and distributed. o Create a list of books not available that could be ordered for the school and delivered to administrators/librarians. o In later staff development, begin moving to analyzing other texts that meet the rigor of the Text Exemplars. Look at current teaching practices and compare to rigor of Common Core State Standards o Start labeling units/lesson with the CCSS that match o Look at Pacing Calendar Curriculum Engine o Go through basics o Enter into discussion about how you can add Calendar Levels that can be used for grade level collaboration/ note-taking directly in curriculum engine
