The prerequisites for Biology 241: Biology 160 and one college-level Chemistry course: 100 or 121. Prerequisite courses taken at other schools must be approved by the instructor. Students are responsible for providing documentation of completion of these courses when necessary. 6. Daily class attendance is highly recommended for Anatomy and Physiology 241. Each student is fully responsible for ALL information given during any lecture period. This includes ALL announcements. For example: If the instructor announces that a quiz will be given the following day, all students are expected to come PREPARED FOR THAT QUIZ. Any student not taking the quiz will receive a “0” for that quiz. Therefore, it is advised to establish a contact person in the course from whom information may be readily available. 7. Regarding TEST TAKING: The Days and Dates of your five exams (four tests and one FINAL EXAM) are highlighted in the attached course schedule. There are absolutely NO make-ups for missed tests unless a VALID excuse is WRITTEN OUT and presented to the instructor explaining why the test was missed and outlining what arrangements can be made. This written documentation then needs to be signed by both the student and the instructor. As a general rule, the missed test becomes the one test that the student is allowed to drop (as stated in #3 above). 8. We will try to accommodate some work in pairs or in groups; your collaborative efforts help all involved. 9. Cheating of any kind WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. If any student(s) is (are) observed to be cheating, papers will be taken away and the student(s) will be asked to LEAVE THE ROOM. Papers will be given an “F” grade and this may result in a 0.0 for the entire course. 10. Cell phones must be turned off (or set to the “vibration-mode” only) during lecture. NO TEXT MESSAGING is allowed during class. NO OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES ARE ALLOWED. 11. SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: Pierce College is dedicated to providing equal access to all its educational and student services. Therefore, I encourage any student who feels he/she may have a disability, or any special need, to contact the Access and Disability Services Office. Students with disabilities who believe they may need academic adjustments, auxiliary aids or services to fully participate in course activities or meet course requirements are encouraged to register with the Access and Disability Services Office, within the Welcome Center in the Cascade Building. You may also call the ADS office to make an appointment to meet with the ADS Coordinator at (253) 964-6526 or 964-6527. Students requesting academic adjustments must obtain the “Approved Quarterly Academic Adjustments, Auxiliary Aids or Services” form provided by the Access and Disability Services Office before any adjustments are made. Additionally, I will work with your needs in every way I can. 12. Anatomy and Physiology is a highly relevant and fascinating subject. The information you gather in this course will be extremely beneficial to you in the future. Let’s have a great quarter! Biology 241 (Anatomy and Physiology I) is the first course of a two-quarter study via lecture and laboratory of human body structure and related physiology on the cellular through system levels. The course includes an in-depth study of cells and tissues: integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous and sensory systems. Biology 241 includes the Laboratory portion which must be taken concurrently. BIOLOGY 241 = 4 quarter credits – Lecture component 2 quarter credits – Lab component 6 quarter credits for Anatomy and Physiology I Upon successful completion of Biology 241, students may enroll in Biology 242 (Anatomy and Physiology II) to fulfill pre-professional allied health program requirements. Systems covered in Biology 242: Endocrine, Cardiovascular (includes blood, heart, and vessels), Lymphatic (includes Immune System), Respiratory, Digestive (includes Metabolism), Excretory (includes Acid/Base Balance considerations), Reproductive, and Prenatal Development. BIOLOGY 242 = 4 quarter credits – Lecture component 2 quarter credits – Lab component 6 quarter credits for Anatomy and Physiology II Total credits earned for Anatomy and Physiology I and II is 12 quarter credits.
