1) List the minimum qualifications necessary for this position:
a) Number of years and type of education and training:
Medical Degree in any medical discipline, additional advanced degree preferred.
b) Number of years and type of practical experience:
Five years post-residency clinical or medical leadership experience. Advanced
experience and skills in health policy and payment, quality improvement, variations in
care, and proven effectiveness in multidisciplinary team leadership. Experience with
implementation research a plus.
c) Any special knowledge or skills:
The fellow will support the execution of the bundled payment project (BPCI) which is a
multi-million dollar project for 10 of our AMC members and has national ramifications
for health system reform. In addition, the fellow will support the clinical leadership of the
Care Transformation Unit to advance AAMC’s leadership in studying and improving
variations in care, best practice dissemination, will lead peers in the AAMC Chief
Medical Officer Group to determine AAMC future priorities in supporting AMCs’ roles
in transforming care and quality.
The position requires superior ability to recognize and communicate strategic issues and
solutions. The position will be a high-level independent contributor to regulatory and
payment reform issues and must possess a high tolerance for ambiguity and an ability to
execute in a high risk environment.
While we seek expertise in the area of payment reform, with specific expertise in
accountable care organizations, bundled payment concepts, or other alternative payment
models, we are committed to training the fellow in relevant health policy for academic
medical centers. Optimal skills include the ability to analyze policy issues regarding
payment methodology, risk adjustment, and the relationship between financial
incentives/risk and clinical care redesign across the continuum, with the ability to
identify areas of concern to AAMC members, brainstorm potential policy alternatives
and articulate those in verbal and written format to internal and external stakeholders.
Passion for policy work and ability to work with AAMC staff to translate constituent
concerns into policy solutions to improve the U.S. health system.
2) Describe the frequency and complexity of internal and/or external contact with others.
Serve as a lead staff and have frequent contact with external consultants and constituents
including Chief Medical Officers’ Group Steering Committee. Lead key policy meetings and
brief senior AAMC leaders. Superior ability to manage diverse relationships and levels of
professionals ranging from clinicians and finance staff at member organizations to consultants
and HCA team members.
3) Describe the amount of supervision received.
Minimal to moderate supervision. High level of technical expertise and the ability to
independently contribute to content with minimal work product review or oversight.

Duties
Serve as organizational lead on AAMC’s effort to identify and improve
clinical and operational variations in AMCs. Serve as clinical leader with
CMO group to identify AAMC quality, safety and care redesign priorities.
Plan and execute educational modules, including the development of tools
and toolkits, convening and leading CMO group calls and other meetings
and/or communication strategies. Lead dissemination strategy for
variations and clinical quality. Facilitate clinical workgroup meetings to
lead care redesign, clinical intervention efforts and best practice
dissemination.
Serve as clinical liaison for workforce implications of health policy;
enhance AAMC knowledge and skills in population health management
Other duties as assigned, including attending and summarizing external
meetings, literature reviews, and undertaking special clinical policy
projects.
