Guidelines for Using Conference Room 133 MacNider Reserve the room by emailing medconfrm@med.unc.edu or calling the Department of Medicine offices at 966-4468. 133 MacNider is unlocked from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Planning Office (966-2441) can open the room during times outside of those. To use the projector, you’ll need to provide your own laptop. Electrical outlets and cables to connect the laptop to the projector are located on the side of the table just below the table top. Follow the instructions on the wall for the AMX control to use the projector. To raise or lower the screen, use the single switch located to the right of the screen. If you need to access the internet while in the conference room, the laptop will need to be registered with the SOM network. If your laptop is already registered with the SOM, i.e. you have successfully connected to the internet while within the SOM, you won't need to do anything. If you don’t know whether you are registered, you can call OIS (966-1325) to check. If you do need to register, it's easy to do so. Simply follow the instructions below: For PC users: Click on Start, then on Run. Type “CMD” in the Run box and hit enter. A black window will appear. In that box type "ipconfig/all" without the quotes, then hit enter. The window will then list the IP address and the Physical Address (also known as a MAC address, not to be confused with Apple Mac computers). The MAC address is in the format “00-aa-11-bb-22-cc.” The characters may be separated by colons instead of dashes on some machines. There may be two physical addresses listed, one each for wired and wireless connections, in which case we will need both addresses. If you're not sure which one is which, have the laptop at this stage when you call OIS (see below). For Apple users: Go to the Apple menu and choose System Preferences. From there, choose Internet & Network, and then select Ethernet. The MAC address will be displayed, usually in the format “00:aa:11:bb:22:cc”. This is for the wired connection. The wireless MAC address will be listed under the Aircard tab rather than the Ethernet tab. Call OIS @ 966-1325 and tell them you want to register a laptop. OIS will record your name, email address, and the MAC addresses from your computer. You will be able to connect to the SOM network within a few minutes of completing this registration. If you provide food for your meeting participants, please factor setup and cleanup time into your reservation. This room is not cleaned regularly by Housekeeping, so we ask that you clean it thoroughly after any events where food was provided. If you have further questions, you may call the Department (966-4468), but we do ask that you use email to reserve the room whenever possible. Thank you.
