Course Description and Prerequisites
Participants will actively manage the student-run clinic at HFA, mentor and teach M1 and M2 students in their clinical
assessment and presentation skills, and assist M1 and M2 students in medical record preparation. All aspects occur
under direct, on site supervision, by TAMHSC faculty.

Grading Policies
The final course grade will be based on observations of supervising faculty. Failure/Remediation guidelines
are outlined in the College of Medicine Student Handbook and Addendum. Remediation will be determined
by the Elective Administrator. Elective Administrator will determine if late work will be accepted with points
taken off on a one on one basis.

Should the course director determine remediation is required, the remediation plan will be at the
discretion of the course director and on a case by case basis depending on the issues involved.
Remediation plans could entail some (or all) of the following examples: Additional clinical shifts,
research papers, presentations, article reviews, exams, directed reading, web-based modules, etc. If the
student performance results in a failure of the elective, it will be recommended that the elective be taken
again in its entirety.
Attendance and Make-up Policies
TAMHSC – COM student handbook states: Students who miss more than 20% of a 4th year elective for any
reason (2 weekdays during a two-week rotation or 4 weekdays for 4 week rotation) will require a remediation
plan.
Course Topics, Calendar of Activities, Major Assignment Dates

Elective requirements:
Students are to work at Health for All on any first, second or third Thursday evening of each month
participating in the Student Run Clinic. A total of 40 hours (4 hours per shift for 10 shifts) for a 1
week course credit, OR work a total of 80 hours (4 hours per shift for 20 shifts) for a 2 week course
credit all teaching and mentoring M1 and M2 students. The weeks do not need to be consecutive.

Record of Attendance:
Students are required to turn in a Shift Card completed by the supervising attending each shift worked
to the Elective Coordinator.

Written Report and Project:
Students must complete and turn in to the Elective Coordinator by the end of the elective:
1. A one page written report about your educational experience participating in the Student Run
Clinic (HFA

2. A project that will help improve the Student Run Clinic. All projects must be from the HFA
approved topic list.

The Student Run Clinic is every first, second and third Thursday of each month starting at 5:30pm. between
the months of August and April. **August, January and March will not have 3 shift days .**
