English Language Arts (ELA) 9:15-11:15 English Language Arts • We use Harcourt Storytown • There are six themes in five different Anthologies • Leveled Readers (Differentiated Instruction) red, blue and green books on windowsill • Phonemic Awareness - rhyming/manipulation of sounds i.e. changing the /t/ in cat to /p/ to make cap • Word Building • Phonics/Cumulative Blending/Decodable Texts • High Frequency Words • Comprehension • Fluency • Grammar English Language Arts • Writing – D’Nealian print instruction – Journal writing – Prompted writing • Robust Vocabulary • Sticker Word Books-begin 9/14 • Practice Kindergarten/First Grade sight words—in binder The Five Finger Rule By using a trick Called "The Five Finger Rule" You can quickly pick out A book that is cool. Read a page of a book To yourself, in your mind, Keep count on your fingers For every new word you find. For the first word, use one finger, For the next one use two, (Are you getting the idea Of just what to do?)
