The Five Finger Rule
By using a trick
Called "The Five Finger Rule"
You can quickly pick out
A book that is cool.
Read a page of a book
To yourself, in your mind,
Keep count on your fingers
For every new word you find.
For the first word, use one finger,
For the next one use two,
(Are you getting the idea
Of just what to do?)
If you are not up to five
When a whole page is done,
You've found a good book,
Now read the whole thing:
Have fun!
-Patricia Murphy
Tricia Nobel's poem, “Which Book?” provided the basic structure of this poem.
