Name _________________________________________________ Date _______________________ AR Mini-Project Options Students are required to read one AR book for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters. In addition to the reading, students must take an AR test and complete one of the following mini-projects with each book. Students have the opportunity to select any project listed but are not able to complete a project more than once. Option 1: Poster/Glogster You will construct a poster that advertises your book. All information about the novel will be on one side of your poster. Your job is to create an advertisement that will convince others to read your book. The poster will include the following elements: a) Title and author of book b) Review of the novel – One to two paragraphs stating your opinion of the novel with specific examples from the novel supporting your opinions. c) Favorite passage – Select a passage from the novel; copy it to your poster. This passage must be significant, and it must consist of approximately fifty words. Under it you need to explain the significance of the passage and why you chose it as your favorite passage. d) Pictures that illustrate the novel – Go through old magazines, use clip art, draw, etc…pictures that resemble the following: Characters Setting Conflicts Themes e) A Catchy Convincing Phrase to Persuade Others to Read the Novel Option 2: Collage/Mosaic Complete a collage/mosaic for your novel. Your project should be on a poster board. The format is shown below. Book Title Picture of Main Character Picture of Setting Vocabulary Word (include definition, part of speech, sample sentence) Quote Picture of Something Important to the Main Character A Significant Event Statement of the Conflict of the Novel Statement of the Theme of the Novel Picture of Something Important to the Main Character Vocabulary Word (include definition, part of speech, sample sentence) Quote Option 3: Paper Bag Report On the front of the lunch bag, you will draw a scene from the novel. You include the title of the novel, the author, and your own name. On the back of the lunch bag you write the names of the main characters, and supporting characters, and write about the setting, conflict(s), and resolution(s) of the novel. Inside the bag, you place at least five objects that represent significant events in the novel or aspects of the characters’ personalities. At least three of the objects must be handmade by you. Option 4: TV or Radio Reporter You will give a report of a scene from the novel as if it is happening “live”. You will need to write the report which should describe the setting, characters involved, and your personal thoughts about what is taking place. This report should be approximately twelve to fifteen sentences in length. Your presentation should last between two-three minutes, and you will need to take on the role of an actual reporter. Proper attire is strongly recommended. Option 5: ABC Summary In each letter box write a fact from the novel that begins with that letter. The completed boxes will serve as a summary of events from the entire novel. You can create your own or get a chart from your teacher. Option 6: PowerPoint Create a PowerPoint presentation that includes the information from the Novel Information Sheet. Be creative when arranging the information. Option 7: Character Diary You will choose one character from the story and write five diary entries in the voice of that character. You must express the thoughts, feelings, and reactions of the character during various events in the story. Each entry must be a minimum five sentences long. The diary entries should be hand written and pages should be bound and have a cover. The cover should include the character’s name. In addition, you will need to illustrate two of the diary entries. Option 8: Perform a Scene Dramatize a scene from your book. Set the stage by creating appropriate props and costume(s). Be sure to speak and dress as the character would from the novel. You are able to have classmates assist with your performance, but you must rehearse ahead of time. Option 9: Write/Perform a Song or Rap Create and perform a song or rap that contains several aspects of your novel. You can sing/rap about the characters, plot, setting, etc. It must take a minimum of one minute. Please turn in a written copy on the day you perform. Option 10: Book Jacket Create a book jacket of your novel. Be sure to include a picture that best represents an important event from the plot. Also, the back of the jacket should have a detailed summary of the book without giving away the ending. Option 11: Diorama Construct a diorama of one of the main events of the book. Include a written description of the scene. Option 12: Scrapbook Create a three page minimum scrapbook. Topics could include a summary of the novel, a specific chapter, a character’s journey, the plot, etc. Be creative! Option 13: Interview/Talk Show Interview a character. Write at least ten questions that will give the character the opportunity to discuss his/her thoughts and feelings about his/her role in the story. However you choose to present your interview is up to you. Option 14: Create Your Own Please propose your idea to your teacher for approval. HAVE FUN and BE CREATIVE!
