Beginning of the Year Sentence Test Review

Complete sentence-

Has a subject (the who and what the sentence is about)

Has a verb (the action or state of being)

Expresses a complete thought

2)

Fragment-

a group of words that are capitalized and punctuated like a sentence, but they are not complete.

Usually missing a subject or a verb (see above)

Two complete sentences punctuated like one which is incorrect

Usually joined with just a comma which is NOT STRONG ENOUGH to join 2 sentences together

Compound Sentence-

Two complete sentences joined together but a COMMA and A

COORDINATING CONJUNCTION (FANBOYS- for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so) or a

SEMICOLON;

Remember to make two complete sentences first, and then put a COMMA and a

COORDINATING CONJUNCTION between them OR a SEMICOLON between them.

Remember, each sentence must have a subject and a verb

Independent Clause-

It is the SAME as a complete sentence

It can stand alone! It does not need anything else!

Dependent Clause-

It is the same as a fragment.

It does not express a complete thought and cannot stand alone.

The following sentences are not correct. Please rewrite the sentence below to fix all errors.
