Leadership Positions:
Clinic Coordinators: Clinic coordinators send out the monthly volunteer reminders,
coordinate carpooling, arrange referrals, manage clinic flow, gather patient information to
get MRN and put patient information in WebCIS once the MRN has been created. They
are also the point of communication with the professors regarding course requirements
and feedback, as well as communicating with the community volunteers.
Patient Educators: Patient educator responsibilities include gathering letters from all
the students and sending them to patients after each clinic they also submit the letters to
Penny (course administrator). Patient educators also help find local resources for
patients; this is variable and will hopefully increase next year but may include finding
what services are offered in the local health department, where patients can find resources
for exercise and health life-style programs. They also assist patients with applying for
medication assistance programs. In the event of emergency coverage they will also be
trained to draw labs (this is optional)
Laboratory Coordinators: Laboratory coordinators are responsible for drawing all of
the clinic’s labs, most prominently blood draws (electrolytes, CBCs, etc.) and urinalysis.
Coordinators are provided a half-day phlebotomy training course to prepare them for
their responsibilities. They are also responsible for bring the labs to the hospital after the
clinic is complete. There is an opportunity to use clinic downtime to perform patient chart
reviews and data entry.
