Reading with a Purpose SQ3R Method Survey • Glance over Title, Headings, & Pictures • Ask yourself: – “What do I Know?” – “What would I like to Know?’ Question • Turn the title, headings, and pictures into questions (rephrase it and WRITE IT DOWN!) • Write down unfamiliar vocabulary (bold or not) Read Actively • Read to search for the answers to your questions. WRITE DOWN THESE ANSWERS! • Note all unclear or confusing terms or statements – It is okay to add questions as you go! Recite • Glance away from answers and the book and see if you can remember what you just read and wrote down! • Recite answers to questions internally. Review • Look over answers and organize information. • Make sure you have answered major purpose questions.
