• 1. Open study guides to page 184 and reread
the notes you took on Friday.
– *Pay careful attention to the first section about
the Palmer Raids. That will be our primary focus

USA PATRIOT Act
• Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools
Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism.
• Passed after the 9/11 attacks in NYC & Washington, DC in 2001.
• Gives government more power to monitor and survey the actions
of the American people without going through the process of
getting warrants.
• Some argue it violates the 4th Amendment.
– “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers,
and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be
violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause,
supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place
to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”
