Dear Advisory Council:
Thank you for agreeing to participate in North Allegheny’s Advisory Council for the School
Counseling Department. Our first breakfast meeting will be Friday, May 24, 2013 from 8:00AM
– 10:00AM in the Ponce Room in the Baierl Center. This meeting will include presentations
from the School Counseling Department and time for breakfast and networking.
One of the main purposes of the Advisory Council is to review and develop the goals of our
department on a yearly basis using the domains of our curriculum: Personal/Social Counseling,
Academic Counseling, and Career Counseling. In working with the Pennsylvania Department of
Education, the School Counseling Department has come up with three goals.
Personal/Social Counseling Goal: The School Counselors will help each student explore and
investigate his/her passion.
Academic Counseling Goal: The School Counselors will educate all students and parents about
the realities of post-secondary options linking to individual academic achievement.
Career Counseling Goal: The Advisory Council will develop a professional network to provide
shadowing opportunities and internships for all 11th grade students.
As a group, we will continue to develop these goals and discuss ways to implement them.
