Prompts for writing a story Your story can be completely of your own imagination and creation. If you have a great idea in mind, or if inspiration strikes you while looking at one of the paintings, go for it! But if you are struggling for ideas, here are some prompts to help get you thinking about writing a full narrative: 1. Everyone must deal with failure at some point in their lives. Failure, while difficult and disappointing in the short term, can often lead to later successes. Tell the story of a character who overcomes failure to find later and greater success. 2. Use one of the character archetypes we have studied as a main character and build a story around that archetype. For example, you can tell the story of an outcast, a hero, or a wise old man or woman. Feel free to use more than one character archetype to tell your story. 3. Tell the story of a transformative experience or event that changes your main character in a profound and significant way. What was your character like before this transformation? What caused the transformation? And what were the lasting consequences of this transformation? In other words, tell a story about how your character experiences growth and maturity.
