November 7, 2014 Dear Parents, This week the class began learning about the first Thanksgiving. On Monday, the students used manipulatives to identify all five of our two-dimensional shapes that we have been studying this trimester (circle, triangle, square, rectangle, hexagon). On Tuesday, we celebrated the 50 th day of school with a visit from Zero the Hero, who brought a special project with 50 kernels of corn. On Wednesday, the students began a Thanksgiving Counting Journal about the Pilgrims, the Wampanoag, and the first Thanksgiving. On Thursday, the students had a fun pajama day to celebrate their awesome accomplishment of earning 100 Eagle Awards! Today, the students continued working in their Thanksgiving Counting Journal and completed a Thanksgiving Math mini-book. The students also completed a fun journal page about their experiences carving our class pumpkin last Friday. I hope you enjoy the photos of your child with his/her journal page. They had a great time finding all the seeds inside the pumpkin and counting all 700 seeds that were inside our class pumpkin. Thank you to all of the families who participated in the November Family Project for Show and Tell this week. We have a fantastic “Gallery of Gobblers” displayed outside of our classroom! All of the children had fun talking about the family members who helped them make the creative turkey pictures. If your child did not bring his/her turkey to school this week, please send it to school on Monday. Today in the Friday folder, you will find the last set of Jolly Phonics sound cards to practice at home. We will now be blending these sounds to create words in our reading and our writing each day. You will also find a set of the November Sight Word cards in the folder today. In the backpack today, you will also find your child’s green Jolly Phonics folder. I have included a set of all of the Jolly Phonics sound practice writing pages for all of the sounds your child has learned this year. You can keep the folder and writing pages for your child to review and practice at home. The Emerson All-School Music Program will be on December 14th at 7:00pm at Wheaton North High School. Our Kindergarten students have been doing a great job practicing their songs for December! We are looking forward to seeing you at our program! ***Reminders*** November 13 – Teacher Work Day – No School November 20 – Report Cards go home November 23-27 – Thanksgiving Break Have a wonderful weekend!
