PTA Reflections Project
This year every third grader is expected to participate in the PTA Reflection contest. Hopefully
your child has already started brainstorming ideas that would fit well with this year’s theme:
The world would be a better place if…
The students will share their projects with their class the week of October 6 – 10th. Your child
will receive a grade on his/her presentation, not on the actual project itself. The students will
explain to their class what they created, how it relates to the theme, and any additional
information they would like to share about their project. Teachers will be paying attention to
four things as your child presents:




Can the audience hear your child?
Does your child look at the audience while they are speaking?
Is your child speaking clearly and at a good pace?
Does your child stay on topic?
Public speaking is an important skill to start working on at an early age. It is also part of the
new English Language Arts Common Core Standards.
We hope your child enjoys being creative while completing this project. Please contact your
child’s teacher if you have any questions.

Upcoming Events
Reading/Writing: We are continuing to work on our independent
reading stamina. Next week we will begin focusing on the setting,
plot, characters, and the theme.
*Friday Switch Day –
Sept 24
In writing we are in the beginning phases of opinion writing.
Students will be expected to clearly write about a topic and give
reasons for their opinions and preferences.
We have also been busy working on abstract nouns. These
nouns can be tricky for 3rd graders because they are nouns that
you can’t see, touch, taste, smell or hear. Some examples of
abstract nouns would include: silliness, happiness, excitement.
