Activities
The activities in this book are designed to target school and classroom
values. These activities focus on six core values including:

These core values have been separated into three values to increase
student learning potential. These values are:

Teaching
Activities included in this booklet are quick and easy and require minimal
resources. Activities are designed to take no longer than 30 minutes and
can be conducted in classrooms and in the playground. All activities in
this book are designed to compliment existing values education
embedded in the New South Wales Primary School Curriculum.

This is a quiet activity that is designed to be completed individually. This
task will take approximately twenty minutes to complete. This activity
focuses on students reading and writing skills.

Respect and responsibility find-a-word
Instructions
Find-a-words are a great way of expanding students’ vocabularies. This
quick and quiet activity works to expand the students’ vocabularies with
regard to respect and responsibility themes.
This activity will take approximately thirty minutes to complete.
However, some students may require extra time to complete this activity.
This can be done at a later time during the day or week, or can be finished
for homework.
1. Ask students to sit at their desks and wait for instructions.
2. Provide each student with a respect and responsibility find-a-word
sheet.
3. Instruct students to find words related to respect and responsibility
using the words at the bottom of the page as a guide.
4. Collect the worksheets and hang them around the room.

Respect and Responsibility word bubbles
Instructions
This activity is quick and fun and can be used as a lesson break or a
specific lesson on values. This task requires students to read words and
phrases presented on a piece of paper and differentiate between the
words/phrases that demonstrate respect and responsibility and those that
do not.
This task will take approximately twenty minutes.
1. Ask students to sit at their desks and wait for instructions.
2. Provide a copy of the word bubble exercise sheet to each student.
3. Inform the students that they are to determine which of the
words/phrases demonstrate respect and responsibility themes and
which do not.
4. Instruct the students to colour all the words/phrases that
demonstrate respect and responsibility in one colour and those that
do not in another.
5. Choose a few students to present their sheets to the class making
reference to why they chose each specific word/phrase.
6. Collect the sheets and hang them around the classroom.

Respect and Responsibility poster making
Instructions
This is a simple task that can be completed quickly and easily in class
time. It is important to set aside at least thirty minutes for this task.
1. Ask the students to sit at their desks and listen for instructions.
2. Ask the students to split up into three groups.
3. Give each group a piece of butchers paper and some coloured
pencils or textas.
4. Ask the students create a poster focusing on respect and
responsibility.
5. Ask the students to write as many words as they can think of that
relate to respect and responsibility.
6. At the end of the activity, ask the students to pack up and sit back
at their desks.
7. Nominate one or two people from each group to present their
poster to the group.
8. Collect the posters and hang them around the room so the students
can see them.

Respect and Responsibility scenarios
Instructions
This task involves listening to / reading a range of scenarios related to
respect and responsibility within the school and outside environments.
This simple task requires the students to think about the scenarios and
what they should do compared to what they would do in that particular
scenario. This activity will take approximately fifteen to thirty minutes
depending on the level of discussion.
1. Ask the students to sit at their desks and listen to the instructions.
2. Ask the students to split into groups of approximately four people.
3. For a whole group activity, read a scenario to the class. Following
this, ask the class to discuss in their groups what they would and
should do if they found themselves in this situation.
4. For a split class activity, provide a copy of a specific scenario to
each group. Ask the groups to discuss what they would and should
do if they found themselves in this situation. Following this, ask a
member of each group to present their findings to the class.

Activity 3.3
Participation and Co-operation word bubbles
Instructions
This activity is quick and fun and can be used as a lesson break or a
specific lesson on values. This task requires students to read words and
phrases presented on a piece of paper and differentiate between the
words/phrases that demonstrate participation and co-operation and those
that do not.
This task will take approximately twenty minutes.
1. Ask students to sit at their desks and wait for instructions.
2. Provide a copy of the word bubble exercise sheet to each student.
3. Inform the students that they are to determine which of the
words/phrases demonstrate participation and co-operation themes
and which do not.
4. Instruct the students to colour all the words/phrases that
demonstrate participation and co-operation in one colour and those
that do not in another.
5. Choose a few students to present their sheets to the class making
reference to why they chose each specific word/phrase.
6. Collect the sheets and hang them around the classroom.

Participation and Co-operation poster making
Instructions
This is a simple task that can be completed quickly and easily in class
time. It is important to set aside at least twenty minutes for this task.
1. Ask the students to sit at their desks and listen for instructions.
2. Ask the students to split up into three groups.
3. Give each group a piece of butchers paper and some coloured
pencils or textas.
4. Ask the students create a poster focusing on participation and cooperation.
5. Ask the students to write as many words as they can think of that
relate to participation and co-operation.
6. At the end of the activity, ask the students to pack up and sit back
at their desks.
7. Nominate one or two people from each group to present their
poster to the group.
8. Collect the posters and hang them around the room so the students
can see them.

Participation and Co-operation unjumble hands
Instructions
This activity is fun and physical. This is a great activity to include in
physical play time or sport. To complete this activity, students must work
together to unjumble their hands. This activity is complete when students
have unjumbled their hands and are able to stand in a circle.
1. Ask students to sit on the ground outside and wait for instructions.
2. Inform students that they are to split into groups of about ten
people.
3. Ask students to stand up and get into a circle.
4. Instruct students to place their hands into the middle of the circle.
5. Students are then informed that they are to hold two other people’s
hands.
6. Students are then required to unjumble their hands without letting
go.
7. After students have unjumbled their hands they are required to
inform the teacher and sit back down on the ground.

Instructions
This activity is great to play during sport or physical play. During this
activity, students are required to cooperate with each other to create
specific words using their bodies. This activity can be implemented for as
long as the teacher in charge determines.
1. Inform students that they are required to sit on the ground and wait
for instructions.
2. Ask students to get into groups of about ten people.
3. Inform students that they are required to spell different words as
specified by the teacher using their bodies.
4. Tell students they are required to work together to make all words.
5. Provide students with a range of words that they are required to
make using their bodies.
6. To make this activity more challenging and competitive, provide
prizes to the team that can make the word the fastest or clearest.

Instructions
During this activity students are required to work together to form a circle
in which all students can sit on each other’s laps. This activity relies on
trust, participation and co-operation. Students are also required to use
language skills to organise the activity and ensure its success.
1. Ask students to sit on the ground and wait for instructions.
2. Inform students that they are to stand up and form a circle.
3. Ask students to turn to face the back of the person standing in front
of them.
4. Inform students that to ensure the success of this project they must
work together and trust each other.
5. Ask students to sit on the lap of the person behind them.
6. Ask students to stand up and congratulate each other on the success
of the activity.
