AGENCY GOALS & OBJECTIVES:
The mission of BCHD is to advocate, lead, and provide services of the highest
quality in order to promote and protect the health of the residents of Baltimore.
DEPARTMENT GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
Baltimarket is a suite of BCHD community-based food access and food justice
programs. Baltimarket’s mission is to improve the health and wellness of Baltimore
City residents by using food access and food justice as strategies for community
transformation. Baltimarket programs include the Virtual Supermarket, Healthy Stores,
and Neighborhood Food Advocates. The Virtual Supermarket is the flagship Baltimarket
program: the first community-based program in the county to use online grocery
ordering and delivery to bring food to community sites in food desert neighborhoods.
Healthy Stores is a multi-level program that supports corner stores in stocking
healthier items, organizes youth as Neighborhood Food Advocates, and conducts
nutrition education in grocery stores. Neighborhood Food Advocates works in tandem
with the Virtual Supermarket and Healthy Stores programs to engage and organize
residents in food desert communities.

INTERNSHIP INFORMATION (How might your organization use and improve a health
education student’s skills and knowledge?):
Interns for the Tobacco Use Prevention and Cessation program will conduct a variety
of tobacco education and public health activities. Each internship opportunity will be
tailored to the program’s needs and to the student’s interests. Possible work
includes:
 Writing and developing tailored tobacco education curriculum, outreach activities,
and projects for youth and adults on a variety of topics, including secondhand
smoke, smoke-free home rules, little cigar use, e-cigarettes, other tobacco
products, and smoking cessation.
o Evaluate and improve education curriculum by:
 Identifying best practices and opportunities for improvement
 Editing the tobacco education curriculum accordingly
o Collaborate with community partners to identify opportunities for tobacco
education
 Assisting with the Baltimore City Tobacco Coalition
 Supporting tobacco policy and its implementation
o Conducting research
o Writing educational one-pagers
 Assisting with implementation of Youth Tobacco Prevention Program and its
activities
 Assisting with other report writing, evaluation, technical assistance, and other
duties

 A long-standing and passionate commitment to the community and the promotion
of health equity
 Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working with diverse groups of people
 Demonstrated knowledge of tobacco education and tobacco policies and
programs



Ability to prepare reports and to make proposals and recommendations
Access to reliable transportation (required)
Previous tobacco education experience preferred



The Tobacco Use Prevention and Cessation Program is housed in downtown
Baltimore. If you’re coming for an interview, give yourself plenty of time to
look for parking or take the Light Rail. If selected for an internship, staff can
recommend parking.
This position may require night and weekend work, based on intern availability.
