The kids loved our “Who Wears This Hat?” theme this past week! They loved
trying on all of the hats during circle time and in the dress up area. Having a tall
mirror for them to see themselves made it more fun! The favorite activity for the
kids by far was when we had teachers behind the screen and the kids had to guess
which hat they would be wearing when they popped up. They were cracking up! It
was fun for us to see how excited they were!
Having shaving cream in the feeling table brought a variety of reactions! Some of
the kids really enjoyed touching it, while others used tools to move the shaving
cream around. We are putting laminated strips with their names or the first initial
of their name in the feeling table so they can trace over the letters of their names
with the shaving cream.
During our social skills activity that we are doing with Miss Megan’s class, the kids
decorated a snowman together. Each child chose a part to give to a friend as they
worked together. These activities are facilitated by our social worker Rachel
Anderson. Other activities we have done include rolling a ball to a partner,
pushing a toy car to a partner, using the parachute and saying Hi to friends, and
playing drums with partners. One friend had the drum and another friend had the
mallet.
The mail carrier will be the community helper “who wears this hat?” this week.
The kids will learn about the job that mail carriers do and will create a special
piece of mail that will come to your house sometime soon! This is another way that
we will be working on recognizing our names in print and identifying alphabet
letters. We will talk about the basic sequence of creating a letter, putting it an
envelope, putting a stamp on the envelope, and mailing the letter.
Valentine Activities: Friday will be a basically normal day incorporating playdoh
with valentine cookie cutters, a valentine bean bag toss game, and a special
valentine craft.
The DuPage Children’s Museum will be bringing mobile activities to Jefferson for
our students to enjoy. Our class will participate in these activities on Friday. These
activities are very hands on and focus on math concepts. We thank the PTA for
providing this opportunity to our students!
