Third Graders at Oaks School #3 are learning about the life cycle of the endangered Whooping Crane. The migration began in October and the chicks needed to learn life skills by following Robo-Crane. Each team of students chose a chick to follow and they kept a journal of the migration. As the chicks grew, the excitement in our classes grew. Some students in Mrs. Acker’s class posed with their chicks. Students in Mrs. Sharpe’s class measured the size of a full grown Whooping Crane. Mrs. Acker’s students created a habitat and a list of “whooper facts.” Mrs. Sharpe’s students labeled the Whooping Crane’s adaptations. A line graph was created for the miles the birds traveled each day. Mrs. Rossberg’s students had fun measuring themselves against a full grown Whooper. Mrs. Rossberg’s students are proud of their journals. The Third Graders collected $550.00 by selling crazy bird key chains. We bought two and a quarter miles to help the Whooping Cranes. We are so happy to be a part of this program and help to protect this magnificent species.
