REQUIREMENTS FOR COURSE: A notebook/folder to hold any paperwork and/or scenes.
Journal-type notebook. Smart Phone and/or Internet Access. Pen and/or pencil. Scenes as
needed. Materials as needed.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Theatre Arts III-IV is designed as an analytical extension of the skills
introduced in Theatre Arts I, II, and III. Students will examine all areas of theatre, but will primarily
focus on production and production history, acting techniques and methods, stage movement; oral
interpretation; theatre history; theatre production techniques; and period playwrights, texts, and
styles. This year’s particular focus will be multicultural non-realistic influences into the 21st century.
Theatrical careers and college theatre program options will be explored.
OVERALL COURSE GOALS:






To continue to develop an appreciation of theatre as an entertaining performing art, but
more importantly, an educational endeavor which enriches the overall community
To expand knowledge of various areas of theatre, including period production styles,
playwrights from various periods, different acting theories, and multiple theatre genres
To further develop practical skills of the use of theatrical elements and of the production
process, including all areas of technical theatre, in relation to a variety of styles,
techniques, and genres.
To demonstrate an understanding of cultural, historical, and artistic relationships between
theatre and society.
To make informed judgments about the quality, value, and meaningfulness of different
forms of theatre.
To explore college and career opportunities in Theatre Arts.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

This is a performance-oriented class in which monologues, scenes, devised pieces, oneact plays, and/or full-length plays may be performed for an audience. Some of these Major
Project Performances will require after school/evening performances and may require
some after school rehearsals (per the CHS Course Handbook). If you miss a required
performance, there is no “alternative” assignment or make-up work for this major grade.

Appropriate Dress: This class will involve multiple activities, sometimes requiring you to
sit or lay on the floor. You should dress appropriately for these kinds of activities.

Theatre Arts III-IV students are expected to be responsible for their own Time
Management of assignments and projects (i.e. computer/phone use, learning lines,
blocking, adhering to written or presentation projects).

Attendance at or Involvement in ALL Conroe High School Theatre mainstage
productions during the year. Admission is free for Theatre Arts students (this is covered by
the Course Fee). If you fail to attend a required performance, there is no “alternative”
assignment or make-up work for this major grade, so place these dates on your calendar!


Standards. Students must learn to gather their thoughts and respond quickly to prompts.

Electronics Policy—If you are using your phone for class (and we research
many things using our phones), use it only for that. Otherwise, follow the
red/green visual in the room at all times.
ASSESSMENT:
30% - Daily Grades
Daily Participation will be a graded element as required by College Readiness Standards.
Students must learn to gather their thoughts and respond quickly to prompts.
Daily Preparation Work, or as specified.
70% - Major Grades
Performances, Tests/Quizzes, Special Projects, Journals/Blogs, Attendance at CHS Theatre
mainstage productions, or as specified.
