PHOTO PATTERN DATA ELEMENTS: SCHIST The Older Appalachians- This is a region of crystalline rocks known as the rolling Piedmont Upland, a submaturely dissected peneplain. The soil cover is thick. This upland is cultivated and forested. The terrain of interest is at or near the Fall Line where the Piedmont Upland merges with the Coastal Plain. (Humid) Form Piedmont, rolling, rounded crests, steep side slopes; appear as smooth but knobby, undulating, sharply rounded hilltops. Drainage Rectangular, dendritic; medium to fine, some parallelism. Gully Characteristics Parallel, U-shaped, moderate to steep. Special Features Rounded crests, steep side slopes; forest cover. Color (Photo Gray Tones) Uniform light gray. Land Use Forested and agriculture. Vegetation Forests, cultivated crops.
