DIRECTOR OF OXY ARTS Academic Affairs/Dean of the College Position Summary The Director of Oxy Arts will develop and implement a vision for Oxy Arts in Los Angeles. The qualified candidate will create and implement arts programming, and collaborate with community partners to advance that programming. The Director will work with College administration, arts departments, and marketing/communications staff, to advance the goals of the arts curriculum. The Director will be responsible for developing relationships and partnerships with stakeholders in the Los Angeles arts community. The Director should demonstrate experience with curating visual art exhibitions. The candidate will be responsible for fundraising efforts to support the advancement of curricular innovation, public programming, and artists in residence to enhance the College’s mission and to integrate the arts and urban experience. The Director of Oxy Arts reports to the Associate Dean of the College. The Director’s office will be located initially on campus, but will move permanently to the Oxy Arts Center on York Boulevard in Highland Park. The Oxy Arts Center will include a professional gallery exhibition space, a multi-use performance space, visiting artists’ space, and the Director’s office. Essential Functions Develop, oversee, and facilitate arts activities, innovative gallery programs, exhibitions, art installations on campus, and visiting artist programs in collaboration with arts departments (Art & Art History, Media Arts and Culture, Music, Theater, Creative Writing). Manage York Boulevard Arts spaces and develop programming for York Arts Spaces in collaboration with arts faculty and community partners. Manage operating budget and external grants for Oxy Arts. Supervise student workers and post-baccalaureate fellows. Develop and implement branding and communications plans for Oxy Arts in collaboration with communications and marketing staff. Work with the Advancement Office to create support for Oxy Arts. Work with Arts Faculty and Administration to evolve curricular development, establish priorities and move forward with implementing the Strategic Plan’s goals for the arts. Develop and evolve Occidental’s strategic relationships with area arts institutions. Develop and oversee programming related to coursework, as well as internships, in collaboration with LA arts institutions and community partners. Qualifications MA or MFA, or a BA with at least 5 years’ experience in arts programming and management. Demonstrated experience with interdisciplinary arts programming, visual arts installation, gallery exhibition and/or curation, and performance production with a focus on the mission of College. Demonstrated success with fundraising, and a desire to enhance the mission of Oxy Arts through external fundraising and stewardship. Experience in arts education programming and curricular development. Experience collaborating with community partners. Experience with LA arts institutions a plus. Experience managing budgets (operating and grant funded), and familiarity with budget planning and analysis. Strong organizational skills, supervision experience, and the ability to work with a diverse group of faculty, students and staff. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience and comfort working with the internet and web-based platforms for marketing and publicity, including social media. Willingness to work some evenings and weekends. Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds. Self-Starter. Ability to develop and implement a vision. Collaborative. Innovative.
