2016 Upward Bound Summer Instructor
Summary
The Upward Bound Summer Project is looking for a certificated teacher as Instructors to provide instruction in
Common Core Algebra 2 and Common Core Geometry for 15-20 LAUSD High School Students.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions








Instructor budget: $50.00 per student (books/supplemental materials) Copy costs will be limited to 1,000
sheets or 2 reams of paper per instructor.
An outline of the goals/objectives for weekly, mid-term, and full-term progress of your course to be
submitted to the Director.
Each course is 3 hours in length daily; lesson plans should reflect various teaching methodologies so that
students are engaged throughout the defined time frame.
The outline of goals/objectives for the course/s should be developed based on (1) the California State
Standards in the subject area (including the Common Core) and (2) the current LAUSD Curriculum
Guidelines.
Organization of your lesson plans will include a significant midterm and final examination. Please refer to
the attached calendar for the scheduled dates of these exams.
Submit a copy of your midterm and final exam.
You will be assigned a tutor to assist you with your course in any way that you see fit. Tutors will be
responsible for assisting students with homework and projects in the evening. Therefore, any tips
provided to the tutors in regards to helping your students be successful would be appreciated.
In addition, you will be responsible for providing the Tutor assigned to your course with mini lesson plans
to conduct during their evening tutoring sessions.
Requirements/Qualifications
Certified Teacher with degree in subject taught.
Experience as a classroom teacher (minimum two years)
Ability to communicate effectively with persons from diverse cultures and backgrounds
Effective oral/written communication skills in English, bilingual skills in Spanish highly preferred.
Experience working with TRIO programs or first generation college students; experience with federal regulations
working with the Department of Education programs preferred.
Dates: June 27-July 29, 2016
Hours: 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Salary: Based on experience and approved Upward Bound Funding Guidelin es.
