Technology Fee is only a portion of the overall expenditures for technology on the UT Martin campus. The purpose of the $100 per semester Technology Fee is to: - Enhance student access to computers - Increase student computer support - Replace equipment - Improve classroom instruction The most significant benefit is the continued capability of replacing obsolete computer equipment and instructional equipment with state-of-the-art equipment in the general purpose labs, departmental labs, and classroom instructional equipment. Students research and learn with cutting edge technology preparing them to be productive in the workforce. Adding new classroom teaching technology such as easy to use controllers and more classroom technology to have equipment available in every classroom to improve instruction. Plans are in place to ultimately equip 100 classrooms with technology to enhance teaching and learning over the next several years. (11%) of the Technology Fee is being used for working toward this goal. Implementation of wireless continues across the campus. Expansion of network ports to the classrooms where required. Microsoft XP and Office 2003 installed in the labs. Upgrades to the lock system and to file storage, and the implementation of Exchange were completed. Technical support continues to be a significant need for students. Assistance is available 24 hours a day 7 days per week. Without the technology fee, this support would not be available and technical problems with hardware, software, viruses, spyware, file services, print services, etc. would not be solved.
