PROCEDURES FOLLOWING APPOINTMENT TO
AN ENDOWED PROFESSORSHIP OR CHAIR OF EXCELLENCE

1. Appointments to an endowed professorship or chair of excellence are initiated by the
department, with approval by the dean, through an official appointment letter that is filed
with the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
2. The appropriate Dean's office should send notification of the filling of an endowed
professorship or chair of excellence to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Upon
notification of the filling of a professorship or chair, the Vice Chancellor for Academic
Affairs will initiate the following:
a. The Chancellor's Office will notify the Development Office of the
appointment. .
b. The Associate Sr. Vice President's Office is notified of appointments to
chairs of excellence and the appointee's vita is sent to that office.
c. Notify the grants and contracts office in order to allow expenditure from
the appropriate account.
d. The Office of Communications & Marketing is informed of the
appointment for proper media announcements.
e. The department office develops an announcement card for the recipient
of the professorship or chair, and must obtain review by the appropriate
dean's office before printing.
f. The endowed professorships and chairs of excellence lists are updated
by the Chancellor's office.
