RESUME CHECKLIST Complete the following checklist before scheduling a resume review. Personal Information Is your name in proper format (i.e. Jane X. Doe)? Do not CAPITALIZE your last name. Did you include your local phone number and UNCW email address? Have you removed your: Email hyperlink-Social security number – Birthday - License number – Picture-Nationality- Logos-Icons? Education Did you remove pre-university education (i.e. high school)? Only include Overall GPA if 3.0 or greater. Major/Concentration GPA can be used if over 3.0 Is UNCW written correctly: University of North Carolina Wilmington? Include any overseas education/study abroad (if applicable) Work Experience Are your jobs in order of newest to oldest? Include dates of employment (month-year) Are verb tenses in the present tense for present job and past tenses for previous jobs? Did you include a description for each job, along with metrics (i.e. numbers, percentages, dollars, etc.) to quantify your contributions? Are your descriptions relevant to the position you are applying for? Remove any information the hiring manager would not consider important. Do not include employer’s address, phone number or manager’s contact information. Internship/Leadership/Volunteer or Relevant Experiences Bullets reflect action and result statements, instead of tasks. Keep formatting consistent with Work Experience section. Strengths Only include strengths that have been included in Experience sections Did you include your language proficiency level? Conversational (order at a restaurant), Intermediate (ask directions), Fluent (discuss current events). Activities Activities included if not mentioned before. List extra-curricular activities (on or off-campus), UNCW student clubs and association involvement, athletic teams, Greek, community service, and personal interests such as music, art, or hobbies. Checklist p.2 Honors List honors and achievements (Scholarships, Awards, Chancellor’s Achievement Award, Dean’s List, Eagle Scout (include date achieved), Military Awards, National Merit Scholar, Toastmasters) and include certifications and licenses. Summary of Qualifications ** Write the Summary after you have written your resume Develop a summary statement of relevant skills, qualifications and experiences which have been included in the content of your resume. Limit to 2 sentences followed by bullet descriptions of skills and achievements. May use only bullet points if information is relevant and specific. Do the strengths highlighted in your Summary relate to the position you are applying for? Summary should not be longer than two sentences and four to five bullets. Final Checks Have you run spell check and had a friend review grammar and punctuation? Did you review for consistent formatting (i.e. spacing, bullet points, font sizes, etc.)?
