This checklist applies to all new hires. Orientation of a staff member is a shared responsibility between Human
Resources and the hiring department. Discussions will provide information to reduce uncertainty and clarify
expectations.

EMPLOYEE / ‘BUDDY’ REVIEW
Role of ‘Buddy’:
Be attentive; be available for constant support; be aware of job duties and unit
activities.
Accompany the new employee for several days to ensure a good integration.
Assist the new employee to adapt quickly and feel welcomed.
Make sure new employee is not isolated, frustrated, confused, lose confidence
Role of New Employee:
Be receptive; be open to understand the new culture of working in a new office
and in an educational institution.
Ask questions; don’t hesitate to share past experiences.
Don’t be shy to socialize with staff. If you’re missing something, ask!
