EMS Alumni Board
Awards & Honors Committee Report
October 11, 2014 Meeting
1. The names of the 2014 Outstanding Alumni honorees need to be added to the website
listing of award winners. The names are Joe Bunker and John Krogman. The Alumni Office
should be able to provide the graduation years. Also, Max Anderson should be added to the
Faculty Emeriti. Once again, the Alumni Office can provide his years of service to UWP.
2. The webpage for the EMS Alumni Board continues to be an issue with the same problems as
reported in the October 2013 Awards & Honors Committee Report. The link on the page to
Awards & Honors remains dead. There is no way to access the Nomination Forms, list of
previous winners, or list of eligible Faculty Emeriti. This must be very frustrating to alumni or
others who might be interested in nominating someone for one of the award categories. Last
year, the Alumni Office sent nomination forms to individuals who were identified as interested
nominators. We cannot continue to rely on this as an effective method.
When will this problem be solved and our webpage become functional as a communication
tool?
3. Update on Awards & Honors Communication Plan
- The fall job fair did not use folders this year. The Awards marketing document did not
go out. In the spring and going forward, the marketing document will be placed on participants'
tables. The Alumni Office will coordinate with Career Services to get this done.
- Barb will place a "Call to Nominate" piece in the Geode in January with follow-up
reminders in February, March, and April.
- In January, Tom, with help from the Alumni Office, will send a "Call to Nominate" and
information on the nomination process to all EMS departments, EMS faculty, and EMS student
organizations. (Barb will update the current promo piece and forward to Tom & Kim by year's
end.)
- In late January, Barb and Kim will work together to email the call to nominate and
information to all supporting member firms and previous award winners. (This will include Tom's
letter and the promo piece.)
4. Board members are asked to please "market" our awards program as well both through your
workplace as well as through your UWP social contacts. If you know someone either professionally
or socially that you think would be a good candidate, based on our criteria matrix, for an Outstanding
Alumni Award, please consider either being a nominator or encouraging someone else to act as the
nominator. Additionally, take a look at the list of eligible Faculty Emeriti candidates and see if there
is a former professor you think would make a worthy nominee.
Respectfully submitted,
Barb Boldt
