2016 URCE Faculty Mentor and Travel Grant Program URCE MISSION STATEMENT To cultivate a culture of inquiry, creativity, and critical thinking through student-faculty collaboration in undergraduate research and creative endeavors. DESCRIPTION The Purpose of the URCE Faculty Mentor and Travel Grant Program is to provide recognition to Faculty Mentors (Full Time Faculty or Instructional Academic Staff) for the time, effort, and expense required to direct successful collaborative research or creative projects with a minimum of one undergraduate research student. The URCE Faculty Mentor and Travel Grant Program has two components. A Mentor award of $350 is available to faculty or instructional academic staff for the supervision of projects completed in collaboration with current undergraduate student researchers. The remainder of the funding is set aside for faculty mentors to travel with current undergraduate research students as co-presenters for the dissemination or completion of their collaborative projects. Travel grants of up to $1,500 will be awarded through a competitive application process. Preference for Faculty Mentor awards will be given to mentors not receiving specific funding from other internal or external awards for the direct supervision of undergraduate research students. Eligible candidates must have a proposed research or creative project ready to be implemented or are supervising an ongoing project in collaboration with one or a group of student researchers. A candidate may apply either for a mentor or travel award, or both combined. Research is defined as an inquiry or investigation conducted by an undergraduate student that makes an original intellectual or creative contribution to the discipline. The research or creative endeavor must go above and beyond the normal classroom requirements, in collaboration with a faculty mentor at the UWPlatteville campus. Funding for the URCE Student Travel Grant program was made possible by the UW-System Undergraduate Research and Discovery Grant. This program is limited and all monies must be incurred by December 22, 2015. ELIGIBILITY Full time faculty or instructional staff from every department and major are eligible to apply.
