Intern Baylor University – Financial Foundations Description of Office Financial Foundations is a financial education program sponsored by Student Financial Services and designed to help students understand personal money management. The program offers individual appointments with the coordinator as well as workshops on important financial topics such as: Student loans: “Learn about the different options available and what you can do today to start managing the loans you may currently have.” Creating a personal budget: “Learn about different budgeting tools to help you set up and manage a personal budget so you can balance your income and expenses.” Sources for college funding: “Discuss how to apply for financial aid and jobs to help you pay for college.” Credit cards and identity theft: “Learn about credit and how to avoid identity theft.” Educational tools: “Financial Foundations is working to improve retention, student debt load, Baylor loan repayment and four year graduation rate.” Responsibilities/Projects Co-managed by Student Intern Office Hours: 12-20/week; Student Office Visits Per Week: 3-5 students/week; Workshops: 48/semester; Classroom presentations as requested Responds to student emails regarding requests for further information regarding money management. Updates Student Financial Foundations website to give current information Assists with weekly Financial Foundations (FF) tweet media with helpful financial advice. Promotes FF program using Chapel announcement, printed marketing, table talks at New Student Orientation, Parent League and Lariat articles, and Lariat advertisements. Develops relationships with departments across campus such as Success Center, Truett Seminary, Parent League, Multicultural Affairs, and Campus Living & Learning, and Career Services to enhance the FF program. Prepares/coordinates presentations for workshops. Researches tools for financial success and benchmarking data. Researches and prepares grant applications to secure additional funding for Financial Foundations. Co-manages FF scholarship—distribution, marketing, review. Answers phones and greets guests on as needed basis. Filling and clerical responsibilities as needed. Immediate goals include— Focus on first generation students to improve retention rate –introduce Financial Foundations to “First in Line Summer Advantage” student Improve student interaction and visibility of the program (ie. resources, technology, counseling) Introduce financial education in a first year experience class using iGrad or other similar curriculum Increase Success Center interaction Requirements Interpersonal skills Critical thinking individual Presentation skills Creative thinking abilities Strong time management skills to be able to complete multiple tasks at the same time Self-motivated and driven personality Strong technology skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel
